In the end, all it took was a couple of penalty misses by Mulryne and Sutch to deny Norwich a place in the Premiership and a £50m windfall. Instead that prize went to Birmingham City. However Norwich can be proud of their performance in a season where most fans expected them to struggle against relegation or at best aim for mid-table obscurity. A play-off position was a bonus for a club with minimal expenditure on players compared to their rivals from Manchester and the Midlands.
