Biography

Joey Abbs is a left winger who joined Cambridge City in mid-May 2006 from Ridgeons League side Fulbourn Institute. A dead ball specialist who was Institute's top goal scorer in 2004/5, he has had trials with both Nottingham Forest and Norwich City.

In early July 2006, Joey quit Cambridge City stating that the training and travelling would interfere with his university studies. He joined Newmarket managed by his father Dave who was previously at Fulbourn. Cambridge City haven't ruled out Joey playing for them in the future.

He rejoined Cambridge City in 2010.

On 28th October 2013, he moved to Soham Town Rangers. He moved back to Newmarket in the summer of 2015 before returning to Soham at the end of March 2016.

In 2016 he was seriously injured in a car accident that saw his friend Shaun Whiter injured so badly he needed a double leg amputation.

As of the 2019/20 season Abbs was playing for Fulbourn Institute
