Biography

Norwich City completed the signing of Irish defender Emmanuel Adegboyega on 4th August 2023.

The Dundalk-born defender has signed a long-term deal with the Canaries, and will initially form part of the club's development and academy setup.

Adegboyega has featured regularly for Drogheda in the League of Ireland Premier Division during the 2023 season, making 22 appearances.

Prior to playing for Drogheda, he was with Rock Celtic, Glenmuir United, Warrenpoint, Newry, Warrenpoint and Drogheda. He trialled with Blackpool earlier in 2023.

On 4th January 2024 he was loaned to Walsall until the end of the 2023/24 season and made his debut two days later in the 4-0 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup Third Round, coming on as substitute in the 77th minute when the score was 3-0. He scored his first senior goal in the 2-1 win over Mansfield on 17th February 2024 and followed it up with the final goal in a 3-0 win over Morecambe on 20th February 2024 (with Archie Mair in the Morecambe goal)

He was named the EFL Young Player of the Month for February 2024. He has played a pivotal part in the Saddlers’ recent form in Sky Bet League Two. “I’m absolutely delighted,” Adegboyega says. “I was also nominated for Player of the Month and I didn’t get it, but to hear that I got the Young Player of the Month award across the whole of the EFL, I was buzzing. It feels a bit scripted, but everything went how I wanted it to go. As a centre-back, scoring three goals – two of which were winners – and keeping clean sheets, it was perfect in a sense. To score on my debut, after coming on at half time, it was a sensational feeling. After the game, I was like, ‘this is not real’.” He played a total of 14 games for Walsall, scoring three goals before returning to Norwich.

On 7th August 2024 he joined Scottish Premiership side Dundee United on a season-long loan and made his debut on 10th August in a 1-1 draw with Ross County.

On 29th August 2024 he was called up to the Ireland Under-21 squad for games against Turkey and Latvia after helping Dundee United to two clean sheets in his first three games.
