Iceland Under-18 international striker Atli Barkarson joined Norwich from Volsungur IF on 2nd September 2017 and played for Norwich's Under-18s during the 2017/18 season. He has also been capped at Under-17 level, gaining 9 caps and scoring 3 goals.
On 30th June 2018, he signed his first professional contract with Norwich
Barkason left Norwich on 27th August 2019 to join Norwegian second division side Fredrikstad FK in a search for first team football. He was a regular for City's Under-18s in 2018/19 with occasional Under-23 involvement, but hadn't feature in the opening three Under-23 games of the 2019/20season.
On 22nd February 2020 he returned to Iceland signing for Vikingur.
On 27th January 2022 he joined Danish top-flight side SønderjyskE
He moved to Belgium joining Zulte Waregem on 19th August 2024.
He made his senior debut for Iceland on 12th January 2022 in a friendly against Uganda.
