Biography

On 1st September 2023 Norwich City signed centre-half Danny Batth from Sunderland to act as cover for the departing Andrew Omobamidele. The 32-year-old signed a one-year deal at Carrow Road with an option of a further year, and will wear the number 21 shirt.

Batth began his career with Wolves, joining their academy aged 15 and signing professional terms at the end of the 2008/09 season.

The defender had loans at Colchester United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday (twice) during his time at Molineux. He made his league debut whilst at Aidy Boothroyd's Colchester in September 2009. He made 18 appearances for Colchester, scoring once. He played only once for Sheffield United in 2010-11 but played 59 times for Wednesday over two seasons (2011/12 and 2012/13) in League One. They were League One runners-up, securing promotion and he came second in their Player of the Year awards.

He established himself in the Wolves line-up in the 2013/14 season in League One and went on to make 212 appearances, scoring 16 goals. They won the Championship title in 2017/18.

After helping Wolves to the Premier League, he joined Middlesbrough on loan on 31st August 2018 and made 13 appearances

Permanent spells at Stoke City and Sunderland followed. He joined Stoke on 29th January 2019 and made 107 appearances, scoring six goals. He moved to Sunderland on 18th January 2022 with Batth being named as the Black Cats' Player of the Year for the 2022/23 Championship season.

Batth is of mixed English and Punjabi descent. He is technically eligible to play for India through his father. However, he was left frustrated by Indian residency rules and passport regulations in July 2017, and has yet to play for the country.

Batth set up his own charity in August 2017, Foundation DB, with his partner Natalie Ann Cutler, to raise money to combat homelessness in Wolverhampton.

Batth made his Norwich debut in the 2-0 home win over Birmingham on 30th September 2023, coming on as substitute in the 89th minute. His first goal for the Canaries came in the 3-2 away defeat at Watford on 28th November 2023 with Batth scoring the opening goal of the game in the 3rd minute. He made a total of 18 appearances in 2023/24 as Norwich finished sixth reaching the Championship play-offs, before losing 4-0 to Leeds. On 20th May 2024 Norwich announced that Danny would not be extending his stay beyond the one year contract.

In July 2024 it was reported that he was training with Wolves Under-21s to keep fit although there was no possibility of him signing for Wolves. He was linked with a move to Solihull, having reportedly had talks with them. Instead he signed for Championship side Blackburn signing a one year contract on 1st August 2024. He made his Rovers debut as a late substitute in the 4-2 win over Derby on 9th August 2024.
