Former Ipswich and England star Kevin Beattie did some scouting
work for Mike Walker and Duncan Forbes until Walker was sacked.
Kevin signed professional terms with Ipswich in July 1981 and
was the PFA Young Player of the Year in 1973/74. He was also voted
Ipswich's Player of the Year twice. A central defender, he formed
a solid partnership with Allan Hunter helping the Portman Road
side to the FA Cup in 1978. Whilst at Ipswich, Kevin was capped
nine times for England. He scored 24 goals in 228 Division One
games before a knee injury halted his playing career. He attempted
to make comebacks with Colchester and Middlesbrough (making four appearances for each). He then played for non-league Barnet and Harwich & Parkeston before moving to Scandinavia to play for Sandvikens IF (Sweden), Kongsberg IF (Norway) and Nybergsund IL-Tryisl (Norway). He retuned to East Anglia to play for Claction. He then worked in the licensed trade.
After leaving Norwich, he worked for Alan Ball as a scout for Portsmouth and then took a part-time position coaching at Carlisle. He then coached youngsters in the USA before working with Barry Fry at Peterborough.
In October 2008, Kevin was arrested on suspician of theft after
£200 disappeared from a friend's house. He was released
on police bail following the incident and Suffolk police have
now confirmed that they will take no action. Beattie said: Im
glad its all over. This has been a stressful few weeks,
not just for me, but my wife and family. It was all a huge misunderstanding.
Im delighted to have my name cleared. Shortly
afterwards on November 22nd, he was admitted to hospital suffering
