Argentinian striker Luciano Becchio joined Norwich City from
Leeds United on 31st January 2013 in return for Steve
Morison and an undisclosed fee. He became Chris
Hughton's third signing of the January transfer window. He
signed a three and a half year deal with Norwich, ending a five
year spell at Leeds
Becchio began his career in his native Argentina with South American
giants Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, making the move to Spain
and Real Mallorca B in 2003. He played 29 times for Mallorca B,
scoring five goals.
Spells at Real Murcia (2004-05, loan, 16 appearances, 3 goals),
Terrassa (2005-06, 24 appearances, 2 goals) and Barcelona B (2006-07,
10 appearances) followed as the Argentine learnt his trade in
the lower leagues in Spain, before impressing in the Segunda with
Merida where he scored 28 goals in 50 appearances between 2006
and 2008.
This prompted a trial spell at Leeds United in 2008 and a subsequent
five and a half year spell with the Yorkshire club where he amassed
and impressive 86 goals in 221 appearances in all competitions.
This included 19 goals in 31 appearances during 2012/13.
Becchio made his Norwich debut as a substitute in the goalless
draw away to QPR on 2nd February 2013 and then made his first
start on the 9th February in a goalless draw at home to Fulham.
He finished the season with 8 appearances.
He made seven appearances in the 2013/14 season in which Norwich
were relegated from the Premier League.
In July 2014, Becchio was linked with a move to Watford. On Transfer
Deadline Day (1st September 2014), he joined Rotherham on loan
until 1st January 2014.
He was released by Norwich at the end of the 2014/15 season,
having made just one appearance in his last season at Carrow Road.
He returned to his hometown joining Belgrano on 16th June 2015.
They were then in sicth place int he Argentine Primera division.
In January 2016, he joined Rotherham on trial and signed a deal with them until the end of the 2015/16 season on 21st January 2016. He was released on 20th May 2016 as he had only made two substitute appearances.
In mid-September 2016, he joined Coventry City on trial but headed to his home in Majorca on 27th September. He also trialled with Bristol City
On 12th January 2017, he signed for Spanish side CD Atlético Baleares, based in Palma Majorca, managed by Christian Ziege. On 24th January 2017, Becchio scored on his debut in a 1-0 victory over UE Cornellà. He scored five goals in eighteen games to help them reach the play-offs. After a short spell with CD Binissalem, he returned to Athletico Baleares on 17th January 2018 as Assistant Manager to the Argentine Manager Horacio Melgarej.
He joined Spanish fourth tier side Esporles (also on the island of Majorca) on 1st January 2019. He remained with them until August 2020 when he joined fellow Majorcan side Santa Catalina Athletico who also play in the fourth tier Tercera Division (Group 11)
