David Billington
followed
Kit Carson from Norwich to Peterborough
at the age of 12/13. Progressing through the Youth and Reserve ranks,
he had made only 5 league appearances for the Posh before he was
signed along with
Mark McKeever for £1million
by Sheffield Wednesday. He has been capped by the Republic of Ireland
at Under-16 and Under-21 level. A defender, David had not broken
into the Wednesday first team by the end of the 1998/99 season.
Injuries curtailed his progress at Hillsborough and he had a series
of delicate operations on his knee.
David returned to London Road in September 2000 in a bid to regain
fitness after his injuries. He was expected to play for Peterborough
Reserves and there was talk of his visit becoming permanent.
In September 2001, David admitted defeat over his knee injuries
and accepted an insurance payout and quit the professional game.
Returning to his hometown of Oxford, he joined non-league's Oxford
City. On 2nd August 2003, he trialled for Dr Martens league side
Banbury United in a pre-season friendly against Didcot Town. He
completed a move to Banbury during the following week,.
