On 11th December 2003,
it was announced that Ipswich midfielder Matt Bloomfield would
join Norwich on trial the following week. The former England Under-19
midfielder was no longer required by Ipswich and Joe
Royle had announced he was available on a free transfer. He
looked likely to join Boston until Norwich showed their interest.
This is a far cry from earlier in the year when Newcastle were
rumoured to be keen on adding him to the rank of ex-Ipswich players
at St James Park eg Dyer, Bramble, Ambrose.
Matt joined Wycombe
in December 2003 but he was unable to prevent Tony Adams' side
from relegation into Division Three
Matt is the brother
of former Norwich squad member Danny
Bloomfield
Matt spent 19 years at Wycombe as a player, captain and then a coach, progressing to first team coach under Gareth Ainsworth following his retirement in early 2022. Bloomfield was club captain at Wycombe for almost a decade, and was part of four promotions with the club - rising from the fourth tier to the Championship with them.
He made 558 Wycombe appearances
Seen as one of the best up and coming coaches, he was appointed as Manager of Colchester United on 30th September 2022
Bloomfield returned to Wycombe on 22nd February 2023 after Gareth AInsworth left Wanderers to take charge of QPR. Bloomfield brings with him from Colchester Richard Thomas as his assistant manager, while Lee Harrison returns for a third spell as Wycombe's head of goalkeeping.
