Everton's Scottish Under-19 international fullback Patrick Boyle
joined Norwich City, initially on a month's loan on 14th September
2006. Boyle made his debut for Norwich, and his first professional
start, in the 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace on 16th September
2006.
His loan spell at Norwich ended on October 17th due to Boyle picking
up a back injury.
He made his first appearance on a Premiership team sheet on October
22nd 2006 in a home game against Sheffield United where he was
an unused substitute.
The back injury sustained whilst on loan at Norwich developed
further and Boyle was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the
back. Boyle missed 5 months of football before returning to training
in April 2007.
In January 2008, Boyle joined Crewe Alexandra on loan from Everton.
He made his debut for the Railwaymen in the 2-1 defeat at Swansea
City on 22 January - this was his first first-team appearance
for any side since his loan spell at Norwich. His loan was extended
until the end of the season and made 17 appearances for Crewe.
On 14th May 2008, Patrick was one of a number of Everton youngsters
to be released.
He had a trial with St Johnstone in the summer of 2008 but didn't
sign for any club until he joined Dumbarton on 31st January 2009.
In June 2009, he was linked with a move to Motherwell only for
manager Mark McGhee to quit the club for Aberdeen. Motherwell's
chairman John Boyle had given the okay for the deal to be honoured
but it had not been completed. He instead signed for Partick Thistle
in early July 2009
Boyle joined Clyde on loan from Partick Thistle on 6th March
2010 and made 8 appearances before returning to Thistle in April
2010
Boyle signed for Dunfermline on a two year deal on 2nd June 2011
and made 22 appearances in the Scottish Premier League.
On 13th July 2012, he was loaned for the first six months2012/13
season to Conference side Gateshead. The loan was extended on
8th January 2013 until the end of the 2012/13 season.
Released by Dunfermline due to their financail challenges, Patrick
signed for Airdireonians on 20th August 2013. He moved to Ayr United at the end of the 2014/15 season. Released in May 2018 after making 27 appearances, he signed for Peterhead.
On 31st July 2020 Lowland League side Kelty Hearts announced their signing of Boyle. He helped them secure promotion to Scottish League Two.
He returned to Dumbarton on 3rd June 2021 on a one year deal. Manager Stevie Farrell said: "Since his first spell with Dumbarton Pat has earned a reputation as one of the most dependable left backs in lower league football. The success he personally has had in recent years speaks for itself, and we know he will be a huge asset to us."
He left Dumbarton in May 2022 following their relegation to Scottish League Two. He had played 32 games for Dumbarton, scoring once.
On 6th June 2022 he was appointed player/assistant manager of West of Scotland League side Gartcairn. Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop has signed Boyle as a left-back, but also as his right-hand man in the dug-out. His experience is likely to prove invaluable in both roles.
