Chelmsford Town forward Tesfaye Bramble (initially spelled Brambell
by the media) impressed the Norwich scouts when he played for
Cambridge United Reserves against Norwich in the Avon Insurance
Football Combination in October 1998. A week later, he was invited
to guest for the Canaries in a Reserve team clash with QPR. However
he did not impress and was substituted.
Since his brief spell at Carrow Road, Tesfaye had trials with
Tottenham Hotspur (Tuesday 24th November) and his hometown team
Ipswich Town. Tesfaye was previously at Portman Road but was released
as the club thought he was too short. He has since grown in stature
to 6ft 2ins. His brother Titus had made his debut in the Ipswich
defence that season. According to Teamtalk,
Tesfaye was set to join Tottenham in early March 1999 for a five
figure fee. According to the Chelmsford
City website, Tesfaye was also linked with a move to Luton
but in the meantime, he trained full-time with Colchester United.
In the summer of 2000, Tesfaye joined Dr Martens League rivals
Cambridge City. However he was again linked with a move to Ipswich
in October 2000 whilst Sport First linked him with a move
to Dave Webb's Southend on 17th December 2000. This move materialised
in January 2001, initially as a loan deal on 19th January so that
Tes could be registered to play in Southend's game the folowing
day (Full signings had to be registered by midday for next day
eligibility but loans could be passed until 5pm). Tes completed
his medical the following week and signed a full contract with
the Shrimpers at a fee of £7000,making his debut in the 0-0 draw
with Shrewsbury on 27th January 2001. He made 16 appearances that
season but failed to register his first league goal.
Scoring 11 goals in 2002/03, Tes was rewarded with a new 2year
deal at the end of June 2003
In November 2004, Titus was called up by footballing minnows
Montserrat, coached by Ruel Fox, and Titus
has made his international debut for them and scored in a World
Cup qualifier against Antigua on 2nd November 2004 (which was
lost 5-4).
In March 2005, Southend loaned Tes to League Two strugglers Cambridge
United with Tes scoring on his home debut, alongside fellow debutant
Iwan Roberts, in a 2-1 defeat of Wycombe
Wanderers (which also saw Clint Easton sent
off for the visitors) Unfortunately his efforts could not prevent
United being relegated to the Conference on 24th April 2005
Newley promoted to League One, Southend opted not to offer Tes
an extension to his contract that expired in the summer of 2005.
Although Rochdale and Lincoln expressed an interest in signing
him, Tes joined Stockport County on 17th June 2005 signing a two
year contract.
Tes was released by Stockport at the end of the 2006/7 season
and signed for Stevenage on 14th July 2007. He was released by
Stevenage after one season and was said to be in talks with Kettering
Town
Tes signed for Ridgeons League side Leiston in August 2008
In June 2011, Bramble was convicted of rape and sentenced to
four and a half years in prison, after a four day trial at Leeds
Crown Court
After serving two and a half years, he was released in November 2013. The following year he played briefly for Ipswich Wanderers.
