Garry started his
career at Tottenham Hotspur in 1977 and whilst at White Hart Lane
won FA Cup and UEFA Cup winners' medals. However he was never a
first team regular and the majority of his 73 league appearances
were as substitute. Indeed he is the only player to appear as substitute
in three FA Cup finals. To his credit he managed to score 15 league
goals in those 73 appearances. In February 1983 he was involved
in a near-fatal car crash. He managed to recover from his injuries
but was unable to perform efficiently at the top flight.
He joined Norwich on 24th May 1985 following their relegation to
Division Two. He notched up 20 appearances for the Canaries although
ten of them were as substitute. He moved to Dutch side Groningen,
who were coached by Ronald Koeman's father Herman, in December 1986
for £30,000. He returned to England fifteen months later to
join Wimbledon where he made 12 appearances. A loan spell at Stoke
(8 appearances) preceded a transfer to Brentford in August 1990.
He made just 11 appearances before he was released joining non-league
side Baldock Town. Whilst with Baldock, he made two brief returns
to League football spending loan periods with Colchester (no appearances)
and Reading (four appearances in March 1991). Following his spell
at Reading, he moved to non-league Wivenhoe Town and has since spent
time at St Albans City, Romford, Worthing, Cornard United and Braintree
Town.
Garry now co-owns the Palace Soccer School and Sports Shop in Muswell
Hill. which he set up with a friend in 1992 after gaining coaching
qualifications. He now coaches at schools most days, runs 14 Sunday

in the Community scheme. As well as his coaching involvement, Garry
is a regular performer for Martin Chivers Ex-Spurs XI and
