In January 2022 Norwich reported that Iain Brunskill had joined City as the Senior Development Coach within the Academy. He had been a player with both Liverpool and Bury.
Brunskill was Assistant Academy Technical Director at Liverpool between March 1998 and August 2008. He then joined Blackburn where he was Reserve Team Manager and then First Team Coach. He left Rovers in December 2012.
In January 2013 he joined Maltese side Floriana as Head Coach on a ten game contract in which they won 9 and drew one.
After working for the Football Association, he joined Bolton Wanderers as Head of Professional Player Development in November 2014 and stayed until June 2016.
His next role was Olympic Under-23 coach for the Jordan Football Association (July 2016 to January 2018) before becoming Under-21 coach for Shanghai SIPG between March 2018 and December 2018. He then joined Norwegian side Molde as Head of Academy between January 2019 and January 2020. His next appointment was as National Coach for the Chinese Football Association working with their Under-18s and Under-20s to prepare them for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
He left Norwich at the beginning of February 2022 to returnt to his native North West and join Blackpool as Assistant Head Coach to Neil Critchley. He replaces Stuart McCall who left Blackpool to become assistant to Paul Heckingbottom at Sheffield United.
Critchley and Brunskill moved to QPR in December 2022 but were sacked on 19th February 2023 after just 12 games. They had won their first game against Preston and then picked up just five points from an available 30.
He returned to Blackpool with Critchley in June 2023 but left in June 2024 to become assitant coach to Neil Lennon at Romanian side Rapid Bucharest.
