Birmingham born
defender Wayne Cooney was released by Norwich at the end of the
1985/86. He joined Eire side Shamrock Rovers in the close season
of 1988. He spent four years with them before joining Dundalk in
the close season of 1992 for whom he made 34 appearances scoring
3 goals. In December 1993, he joined Bohemians and later moved on
to Bray Wanderers. He moved into Northern Ireland with Newry Town
in February 1997 making a solitary appearance before joining Cliftonville
that summer. He made 4 appearances for them in the 1997/98 season.
