Fourteen year old Nick Davey from Walpole St Andrew started playing
for Walpole Youth Football Club at the age of seven, regularly
being top goal scorer each season. Nick was selected to represent
West Norfolk about 18 months ago under the guidance of community
coach Paul Hunt. Nick also performed well at school level football,
where his Physical Education teacher, at Marshland High School,
decided to contact Norwich City Academy asking if they would have
a look at Nick in October 2004. Nick was straight away asked to
take part in a friendly match at Colney training ground against
a Dutch team. During this match, Nick scored a hat-trick for Norwich.
He was then invited to train with the Norwich Academy U14 squad
until Christmas, then was put on a six week trial after. Nick
has now been successful at his trial and in March 2005 was signed
on until the end of the season, looking to sign for a further
two years after.
Nick scored the winner for Norwich City's Under-16 squad as they
defeated Hungarian side Ferencevaros 1-0 to win the University
of Ulster Under-16 Umbro Foyle Cup at the end of July 2006. The
young Canaries had also played South East Soccer Academy from
Carlow, Glentoran, NECSL and Dundalk Schools
In February 2006, he was offered a scholarship with the Canaries
to commence in August 2007.
Nick wasn't offerred a professional contract by Norwich when
his scholarship ended in the spring of 2009. He joined Cambridge
City on trial during the summer of 2009. Nick then joined Kings
Lynn before moving to Bury Town in early October 2009.
In February 2010, Nick surfaced in Australia playing for Sunshine
George Cross in the Victoria Premier League
He returned to England in July 2011, signing for Wisbech. He
switched to Dereham the following summer and then moved on to
join Peterborough Northern Star
In October 2013, Davey was among 360 amateur players to have
been shortlisted in a nationwide talent search that will see three
of them win pro contracts at Football League clubs. He will take
part in first round trials in the Samsung Win A Pro Contract competition
that could see him sign up for Swindon Town, Wycombe Wanderers
or Leyton Orient.
Davey said: I am looking forward to the regional stages.
Its a great opportunity for me to hopefully show what I
can do and then progress on in the competition. I know I am more
than capable of winning the competition and I need to keep working
hard and do the right things. I definitely want to be in the final
six but it would mean everything to me if I won a pro contract.
It is all I have wanted and worked for since I was a boy.
By the summer of 2015, Nick was with Ryman League side Wroxham. The following summer, he moved to Wisbech St Marys.
By 2020 he was with Swaffham Town.
By August 2021 he was with FC Parsons Drove of the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North.
