French midfielder Jean Yves De Blasiis signed for the Canaries
on a Bosman free transfer from French club Red Star Paris. Jean
had impressed in pre-season matches at Southend and in Scandinavia
and so was offered a contract by Bruce Rioch.
A cruciate knee injury sustained in training on 17th March 2000
ruled him out of competitive action until the latter part of 2000
(somewhere between September and Christmas). Despite returning
and playing for the Reserves and First Team (7 appearances in
2000/01), Norwich announced on 3rd April 2001 that Jean would
be released at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The club felt that his injury had made a permanent impact and
would hinder his ability to play at the required level for Division
One
Jean later joined French side FC Istres Ville Nouvelle
He is currently of the club staff at FC Girondins de Bordeaux,
the club where he started his career. He also played for Stade
Malherbe and then Red Star Paris before joining the Canaries.
