Biography

Dutch left back Mitchell Dijks signed for Norwich on loan from Ajax on 31st January 2017 until the end of the 2016/17 season.

He began his playing career at Dutch side FC Volendam in 2009 before moving to the Ajax youth squad in 2011/12. They finished second in the NextGen international competition, losing on penalties to Inter Milan in the final.

He made his first team debut for Ajax on 5th August 2012 against PSV in the Johan Cruyf shield. His league debut came two weeks later against NEC. He made a total of 6 appearances for Ajax in the 2012/13 season

He was loaned to Dutch top flight side SC Heerenveen for the 2013/14 campaign, making 24 appearances.

He was sold to Willem II in August 2014 for whom he would make 28 appearances before Ajax re-signed him on 26th June 2015. He had made 32 appearances for the Dutch giants at the time of his loan to Norwich but had fallen out of favour. Norwich had tried to sign him permanently but he preferred to go on loan.

Dijks made his Norwich debut in the 1-0 win at Cardiff on 4th February 2017, winning the man of the match award. He then scored his first goal when he netted Norwich's equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Wigan on 7th February 2017.

Mitchell made 15 appearances during his loan at Norwich. Talks to make any move permanent broken down in early June 2017 and Norwich abandoned their interest in signing him. "Unfortunately, we couldn't come to an agreement and will now be moving onto other targets," said Canaries sporting director Stuart Webber.

Mitchell has been capped by Holland at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level. He was called up to the senior national team in March 2016 for friendlies against England and France but did not play.

On returning to Ajax, he re-established himself in their first team playing nine games in the first half of 2017/18. On announcing that he would not be renewing his contract at the end of the 2017/18 season, he did not play again for the first team. In May 2018, it was announced that he was moving to Italy to join Bologna.

His contract was terminated by mutual consent on 31st August 2022.He returned to Holland signing for Vitesse Arnhem on 2nd September 2022. He signed a one year contract.
