Danish youngster Asmat
El Ouargui joined Norwich on trial in July 2004 and played for
City's Under-19s in the 4-0 defeat of Northampton during that
period. Asmat scored one of City's goals suggesting that former
Norwich defender Steen Nedergaard
did well to suggest them for a trial at Carrow Road. He
also played in the friendly against Rushden & Diamonds. Per
was then with Danish side Hvidovre.
Norwich Academy Director Ricky Martin announced on 4th December
that he had completed the signing of Asmat. After some weeks of
discussions with the player and his club, Hvidovre, Asmat has
put pen to paper on an 18-month scholarship. "It has taken
some while to get Asmat here and we had hoped that we could also
sign fellow Dane Per Weihrauch at the same time. We came mighty
close to completing the double, but in the end with Per we had
to give second best to Dutch giants Ajax. Asmat did well when
he was here in pre-season, he has great pace, and his athletic
build should see him adapt to the English game without too many
problems", said Ricky
Norwich announced on 24th November 2006 that they would not be
offering Asmat a professional contract when his scholarship expires
at the end of the month.
After trying his luck in Italy, Asmat returned to Denmark and played
for Hvidovre. After a year long injury, he joined Greve IF
