David "Doug"
Evans makes it onto this website on the grounds that he was still
registered with the club in 1980 although his final Norwich City
first team appearance was in November 1979. Born in West Glamorgan
in 1956, David won international recognition by Wales as a youngster
and came to Norwich on trial in 1972. He impressed the City management
and signed as an apprentice. He turned professional two years later
but had to wait until February 1977 to make his league debut at
Birmingham City. Primarily a Reserve team player, for whom he made
80 appearances, David played 19 first team matches for the Canaries,
four of which were as substitute and scored once. During his spell
at Carrow Road, his contract was suspended but his registration
was retained by the Canaries as David tried his luck in the USA
with NASL side Connecticut Bi-Centennials (1977). David was also
an unused substitute for Wales Under-21s in their 15th December
1976 clash with England Under-21s
In March 1980, he joined Cambridge United for whom he made 12 appearances
scoring twice. His next destination was Hong Kong to play for Tuen
Wan for 18 months before returning to play in Eastern Counties non-league
football. Before his retirement in 1988, David played for Lowestoft
(1981-1982), Great Yarmouth (1982-1984), Watton (1984-86), Bury
Town (1986- January 1988) and Norwich United.
Doug later joined Cambridge United working with their schoolboys
before returning to Carrow Road in the summer of 2001 to continue
a similar role with Norwich's Academy. He is currently in charge
of the Under-11s
