On 29th January 2019, Norwich signed young Luton defender Akin Famewo for an undisclosed fee. The Hatters prospect, who can play centrally or at left-back, was reported to have been the subject of a £300,000 bid in January 2018.
Famewo stands at six-foot two-inches tall and has been with the Hatters since starting as an under-10. He was a member of the under-18 team that won the Youth Alliance South East title and the Youth Alliance Cup in 2015/16 and also reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup. He signed his first professional contract in July 2016. Famewo made his debut for Luton as a 17-year-old, coming on in the closing stages of a 2-1 home win over Newport in League Two in August 2016. He has made 13 appearances in total, mostly in the Checkatrade Trophy, starting just two league matches. He joined League Two side Grimsby Town on loan last summer, making 12 appearances
“I’m just so happy to be here,” Famewo said. “I’ve been wanting to come here for a long time. Norwich is where my mum’s side of the family are from."
Famewo will join David Wright’s under-23 squad initially, having celebrated his 20th birthday in November 2018. He was selected as captain of the Under-23s for the 2019/20 season
Norwich's injury crisis in the Autumn of 2019 saw him named on the bench for the home game with Aston Villa which the Canaries lost 5-1.
On 8th January 2020 he joined St Mirren on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season.
After being on the bench for Norwich's Premier League game with Burnley on 19th July 2020. He made his first team debut the following week as a 90th minute substitute in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on the last day of the 2019/20 season.
Akin joined Charlton Athletic on a season long loan on 26th September 2020. He made 22 appearances for Charlton as they missed out on a League One play-off position on goal difference.
Akin returned to Charlton on a season long loan on 8th July 2021. Charlton have the option to purchase Famewo permanently as part of the deal. "He is an outstanding young defender who showed us all just how good he is when he was with us last season," said boss Nigel Adkins. He made afurther 40 appearances for Charlton but they chose not to take him on.
On 6th July 2022 he transferred to Sheffield Wednesday for a fee rumoured to be £50,000.
