Goalkeeper Matthew Fenn was originally spotted by a Norwich scout
was playing for Whitton United against Wealdstone at the age of
21 in 1998. Offered a trial, he played for the A team alongside
Coren Hardy and Sam Hehir. Injuries to Andy
Marshall and Robert Green in January
1998, saw Matthew brought back to Carrow Road as cover. He played
three games with the Reserves (the 3-1 win over Millwall (13/1/98),
the 2-1 victory against Swindon (22/1/98) and the 2-0 defeat at
Crystal Palace (27/1/98). Teammates included Danny
Mills, Darren Eadie and Robert
Fleck. Although hopeful of further developments with the Canaries,
manager Mike Walker was sacked shortly
afterwards and Fenn heard nothing more from the Canaries.
Matthew began his playing career with Stowmarket where he was
capped at Suffolk Under-18 level whilst in Stow's reserves. He
then joined Whitton United and has since played for Ipswich Wanderers,
Needham Market and Leiston. He rejoined Needham Market in the
summer of 2004. According to the Green Un of 2nd October
2004, Matthew works in the petrol trade for Petrotechnic.
