He has been capped at U17 and U18 level for Scotland by the time he joined Norwich. He was called up to their Under-19 squad in September 2019 for friendlies against Japan. He made his Under-19 debut on 5tth September playing an hour against Japan in a 1-1 draw.

He made 14 appearances for City’s under-23s in 2018/19, with his only goal coming against Aston Villa in a Premier League Two fixture at Villa Park during the early stages of the campaign

On 18th August 2020 it was speculated that Aidan would be returning to Scotland to join Championship side Queen of the South on loan. This was confirmed on 24th August 2020 with Aidan stating that the opportunity to play for former Scotland and Rangers winger Allan Johnston was the motivating factor. “It was the words from the gaffer when he was talking to me. There was a real interest from Christmas so from then and now what he has been telling me about the club and how they play and how he was as a player, stuff like that. He played in the same position as me so I think it will help me a lot to develop as a player. I’m still young and still learning but that is football, you need to learn all the time, no matter what age you are.” He made 22 appearances for Queen of the South.

Fitzpatrick was released by Norwich on 3rd September 2021 by mutual consent.. He then trained with St Johnstone before returning to Queen of the South on 8th September 2021 signing a permanent deal. Manager Alan Johnston said “Aidan is someone we know well. He earned his move from Partick to Norwich with his performances, but things haven’t worked out for him down south. We immediately showed our interest when he became available as he has the ability to cause teams problems. This gives us other options going forward and more competition for places and it gives him the chance to kick start his career again”.

Queen of the South were relegated to the Scottish League One on 23rd April 2022.

He moved back to Patrick Thistle on 13th July 2022
