Ali Gibb is a right
sided midfielder from Salisbury. A product of Norwich's youth team,
he became a professional in the 1994-95 season making 30 appearances
for the Reserves. However he never made the Canaries first team
and following a spell on loan to Northampton, he joined the Cobblers
for £15,000 in February 1996. He became a regular in their
first team ever since and accumulated 131 league appearances and
4 goals by the time of his departure.
After an impressive display for Northampton in the Worthington's
Cup against West Ham, it was rumoured that the Hammers were interested
in signing Ali. This rumour resurfaced with the £7.5million
that West Ham received for the sale of John
Hartson to Wimbledon.
Ali was plagued with injuries and has played few games in late 1999.
Ambitious Rushden & Diamonds manager Brian Talbot made a bid for
Ali in late November 1999 but was informed by new Northampton manager
Kevin Wilson that Ali was in his plans for the Cobblers. It appears
that these plans were to raise funds as Ali transferred to Stockport
County for £50,000 on 19th February 2000. Supposedly Norwich received
a small sum in the form of a sell-on clause. He had made 53 appearances
for Stockport as of the end of the 2000/01 season
Out of favour with new Stockport manager Sammy Mcilroy, Ali was
released from his contract so he could join Bristol Rovers on Transfer
Deadline Day (March 25th 2004)
A contract dispute in the summer of 2006 suggested that Ali's spell
at the Memorial Ground will soon be over, after making 45(19) appearances
for the Pirates. He has been in talk with Danny Wilson's Hartlepool
but has also been linked with Stevenage. Ali eventually joined Hartlepool
on 31st August 2006
Ali was loaned to Notts County on 11th January 2008 and made his
debut the following day in the 3-0 defeat at Bradford City in which
Peter Thorne scored a hat-trick. His loan
was extended on 31st January 2008 until the end of the 2007/8 campaign
Ali opted to go semi-professional in June 2008, returning to the
South West and signing for Conference South side Bath City. In February
2009, Ali was loaned to Yate Town. In June 2009, Ali trialled with
Newport Coiunty but if signed, would be competition for Kevin
Cooper. He then joined Almondsbury Town
Gibb studied at the University of Salford for a degree in physiotherapy, graduating in 2015. He then worked for Shrewsbury and Stockport before joining Bolton Wanderers as Senior Academy Physiotherapist in January 2016.
