On 19th March 2018 the North East Chronicle reported that Newcastle's 19 year old England Youth international MacKenzie Heaney had trialed with Norwich the previous week as he is expected to be released by Newcastle in the summer of 2018. A creative midfielder who can play on either flank, Heaney represented Scotland at schoolboy level before switching to his country of birth at under-16 and U17 level. He had made just seven appearances for Newcastle's Under-23s in 2017/18.
He was named in The Guardian's 20 of the Best Talents at Premier League sides in 2015.
Heaney is represented by Triple S Sports, who represent Wayne Rooney, as well as City’s loan keeper Angus Gunn – whose dad Bryan is Director of Talent Recruitment at Triple S
He was released by Newcastle on 8th June 2018. He chose to join non-league Newcastle Benfield and pursue a new career.
