31 year old Dutch defender Jos Hooiveld joined Norwich City on
Transfer Deadline Day (1st September 2014) on a season long loan
from Southampton
Jos started his career with Dutch Eredivisie club Heerenveen
in 2003, where he was capped by Holland at Under-19 level, making
14 appearances before moving to Zwolle, on loan, between 2004
and 2006. He played 45 times for Zwolle, primarily at left-back.
In 2006 he moved to Austrian Erste Liga side Kapfenberger SV and
one year later moved to Finnish side Inter Turku. During his time
in Finland he won both the 2008 Veikkausliiga and 2008 League
Cup as well as being named the defender of the year twice.
Swedish side AIK Stockholm signed him in January 2009 and he
won the 2009 Allsvenskan and the 2009 Svenska Cupen. He moved
to Scottish Premier League side Celtic in January 2010 for a fee
of around £2million. Injuries limited him to seven league
appearances. He was loaned out to Danish Superliga club FC Copenhagen
in January 2011. He then moved on loan to English Championship
club Southampton shortly after the start of the 201112 season
before joining them permanently in December 2011. He was a regular
throughout the season helping them win promotion to the Premier
League.
He had made 77 appearances for the Saints at the time of his
loan to Norwich. Norwich were recomended to him by his fellow
Celtic teammate Gary Hooper.
He made his Norwich debut in the 4-2 away win at Cardiff on 13th
September 2014. He made six appaearances in total for Norwich
before his loan was terminated on 25th January 2015. The following
day, he was loaned to Millwall.
Hooiveld and Millwall were releaged to League One on 28th April
2015 when Rotherham beat Reading 2-1 consigning Wigan and Millwall
to the two remaining relegation spots along with already relegated
Blackpool. He was released by Southampton at the end of the 2014/15
season.
On 10th July 2015, he re-signed for AIK on a two and a half year
deal.
He left Sweden at the end of the January 2017 transfer window, returning to Holland to sign for FC Twente. He made 21 appearances for Twente.
On 5th June 2018, Hooiveld signed for California-based Oragne County of the United Soccer League.
Although reported to have retired in December 2018, he joined Dutch side VV Pelikaan-S
