Craig
Russell, of Manchester City, and Jonathan Hunt (Sheffield United)
joined Norwich's reserves team squad that traveled to Colchester
United for the Avon Insurance Combination League game on 1st February
2000. Both players would have been available on free transfers should
Bruce Rioch decided to take things further
on. Hunt, who followed Barry Fry for much of his career (Barnet
to Southend United to Birmingham City) joined Sheffield United from
Derby County, although he briefly had a loan stint at Ipswich Town,
and played in the derby game at Portman Road last season. At the
end of the 1998/99 season, he had made 33 appearances for Barnet,
49 for Southend (6 goals), 77 for Birmingham (18 goals), 25 for
Derby (2 goals), 13 for Sheffield United (2 goals) and 6 for Ipswich.
Neither Russell or Hunt impressed in the 1-0 defeat at Colchester.
On Transfer Deadline Day, Jonathan joined Cambridge United on loan
until the end of the 1999/2000 season. Returning to Sheffield, Hunt
was freed from his contract on 21st July 2000.
At the end of July 2000, Jonathan teamed up with former manager
Barry Fry again when he joined Peterborough on trial. However he
returned to London and signed a short term contract with Wimbledon
in August 2000. This was extended in September 2000 to last until
the end of the 2000/01 season. Barry Fry made an attempt on transfer
deadline day to reacquaint himself with Hunt as he bid to take Jonathan
on loan to Peterborough. However no deal could be agreed. Hunt was
released by the Dons in May 2001. In October 2001,
Teamtalk
reported that Jonathan would be having a trial with Second Division
Reading.
Jonathan signed for Peterborough at the end of September 2002
on a free transfer
After many seasons out of the game, Jonathan rejoined St Albans
City in 2008/9 and then moved to AFC Hornchurch in September 2009
