Biography

Austrian international Roman Kienast joined Norwich City on trial in mid November 2008 but only played 18 minutes of the reserve team friendly against Arsenal on 18th November 2008 before coming off after 18 minutes with a hamsrring injury that will keep him out of action until January 2009. He is said to be valued at somewhere between £500,000 and £1m and that Norwich have been chasing him for some time.

Kienast joined the youth team of Rapid Wien at the age of 14. He debuted in the club's first team in 2002. In the next two seasons, he made 24 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga, but was unable to score a goal. In 2004, he was loaned out to SC Rheindorf Altach, then playing in the Austrian Football First League. After scoring 4 goals in 6 games, he was quickly called back by Rapid. During the rest of the season, he made 21 appearances for the Vienna side, and finally managed to score his first goal in the Bundesliga. The season ended in glory for the team as they won the Austrian title.

Just before the start of the 2006 season, Kienast was loaned to the Norwegian club Hamarkameratene (Ham-Kam) who then chose to buy him. However, he could not prevent the team from going down that season. In the next season, Ham-Kam got promoted back to the Norwegian Premier League, with Kienast playing an integral part in the campaign by scoring 14 goals.

On 31 July 2008, Kienast moved to Helsingborgs IF of Allsvenskan in Sweden on loan for the rest of the year with an option for them to buy the player

At the time of his trial with Norwich, Kienast had 6 caps for Austria. He scored his first senior goal on 27th May 2008 with his 1-0 goal against Nigeria in a friendly. He was in Austria's squad for Euro2008

In January 2009, Roman trialled with Plymouth Argyle, scoring in a trial match on 12th January 2009 against Cardiff City. Plymouth manage Paul Sturrock said: "This boy has got pedigree but the problem is making a judgment. I have to weigh up the time it took to get Emile Mpenza up and running, and have I got time to do that again? There are also discussions with the other club, discussions with the agent and discussions with the board. There has been nothing negotiated with the club at the minute."

In November 2009, Roman joined Doncaster Rovers on trial. He played for Rovers in a practice match against Sheffield United and staked his claim for a deal with a goal

Roman signed for Austrian side Sturm Graz on 21st January 2010

Kienast joined Austria Vienna on loan on 31 Jan 2012
