Biography

Croatian central defender Jakov Medić signed for Norwich on 25th June 2025 from Dutch giants Ajax on an initial £1.8m agreement, with further add-ons pushing it towards £2.5m. Medic signed a three-year deal at Carrow Road with the club retaining an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

Sporting director Ben Knapper added: "We’re delighted to welcome Jakov and his family to Norwich City. We were clear on what we needed to add defensively in order to improve this coming season and Jakov is a key part of that. He’s a great age and comes with a significant amount of experience during his time playing in both Germany and the Netherlands, in some big games. His profile is well-suited to the Championship and our style of play, and he is someone who has the right attributes and mentality to be a real success here. He will further complement and add to our defensive options, and we’re excited to see what he can achieve with us.”

City had kept tabs on Medic during the last few years and beat off strong interest from other Championship sides as well as some in the Bundesliga. 

Born in Zagreb, he played for youth teams Kustošija, HASK, NK Hrvatski dragovoljac, Zagreb and Istra 1961 making his debut for the latter in 2017. After two appearances, he transferred to NK Lucko in the Croatian second division playing once before dropping into the third division with NK Vinogradar. During the winter of 2017/18 he trialled with Dynamo Minsk. He moved to German side FC Nuremberg in the summer of 2018 initially playing for their reserves in the fourth tier. In 2019 he joined 2.Bundesliga side SV Wehen Wiesbaden where he played consistenly and joined them permanentl despite being relegated to the third tier.

His form saw him signed by St Pauli in June 2021 for whom he made 65 appearances, 60 in 2.Bundesliga) scoring eight goals. On 6th August 2023 he signed for Ajax on a five year deal. Despite scoring on his debut against heracles Almelo,.he played only nine games and was loaned to Bundesliga side VfL Bochum for the 2024/25 season, making 23 appearances and scoring once as the club were relegated.

he has been capped by Croatia at Under-23 level.
