Cameroon World Cup
star Lucien Mettomo joined Norwich City on trial at the beginning
of September 2007. Then available on a free transfer, Lucien began
his career with Tonnerre Yaoundé before joining French
side St Etienne where he helped establish the club in the French
top flight during 81 appearances in a three year stint. A £1.5million
move to Manchester City came in September 2001 for whom he made
30 appearances in two seasons. He then played for German side
Kaiserslauten before joining Turkish side Kayseri Erciyesspor
and Swiss side FC Lucerne
Lucien has won 29 caps for the Indomitable Lions and was a key
member of the squad which reached the 2002 World Cup finals in
Japan and South Korea. He was also part of the Cameroon squad
which lost the 2003 Confederations Cup final to France in a tournament
marred by the sudden death of team mate Marc-Vivien Foe in the
semi-final win over Colombia.
Peter Grant said "Lucien
is out of contract and we are taking the opportunity to have a
look at him. He comes with great credentials having played at
the very highest level, but one thing he is short of is match
fitness.
Grant decided not to take a gamble with him but invited him back
when fully fit.
Lucien then joined Southampton on trial and after two weeks,
signed for them on 26th September 2007 on a short term contract
until the end of the 2007/08 season. His contract with the Saints
was cancelled in January 2008 due to Mettomo's inability to break
into the Saints' first team. He then joined Greek side FC Veria
he is now retired
