Glasgow born midfielder Jamie Mitchell was first spotted by Norwich
City playing in the Canary Cup. He joined Norwich as an apprentice
and made numerous appearances for the Youth and Reserve teams.
Released in the summer of 1996, he joined Scarborough then managed
by former Norwich assistant manager Mick Wadsworth. He played 43 league games in his debut
season scoring 7 goals. He was freed by the club in the summer
of 1998.
According to the impressive Football
News website, Jamie returned home and joined Clyde. He made
6 appearances for them in the 1998/99 season. The following season
saw 24 appearances (4 goals) whilst 2000/01 saw 2 goals in 27
appearances. The Scottish
Football website reported in May 2002 that Jamie was a target
for Partick Thistle, newly promoted to the Scottish Premier League.
This speculation materialised into a Bosman move for Jamie to
Partick in mid-May 2002
In April 2005 Jamie took the blame for a trip to the pub that
has led to two of his team-mates being sacked. Manager Dick Campbell
also put Mitchell on the transfer list and has warned the rest
of his squad against indiscipline. But Mitchell told Glasgow's
Evening Times: "I take full responsibility."Mitchell
says he had asked Stevie Fulton and Andy Dowie to the pub to discuss
problems in his personal life after the three were dropped. The
trio had left Stark's Park 20 minutes before kick-off after being
left out the team to face Raith Rovers. "The truth is that
the last two months of my life have been ruined by family illness
and it has got to me," said Mitchell, whose season has also
been hampered by personal illness and injury. "I want to
have 11 players here who are committed to the club in every game"
said Thistle manager Dick Campbell
In the summer of 2005, Jamie received the sad news that he is
suffering from a degeneration of the hip joint and was advised
to stop playing professional football immediately. Returning to
Norfolk, Jamie signed for non-leaguers Wroxham in early August
2005 making his debut for them against Mildenhall on 13th August
2005.
