Adam Murfett is a centre-forward who signed for Cambridge City's
academy in May 2004 following spells at Norwich City, Cambridge
United and Nothampton Town. He turned down a scholarship from
Southend at the time as he opted to stay in his hometown of Cambridge.
He has since left Cambridge City to concentrate on his water-skiing.
Adam attended Cambridge Regional College as part of his football
scholarship, studying towards a National Diploma in Sports Studies
and an AS level in Business Studies. He continued with his water-skiing
that he had begun at the age of 4. After much success in club
racing, decided this year that he wanted to take his water skiing
to the next level. Adam chose to compete on the national circuit,
and now spends every weekend racing in addition to three-four
nights training in the gym. Adam also manages to juggle his busy
training programme around a full-time job in the family-run Property
Development business, Murfet Developments, based in Sawston.
Adam was selected to represent Great Britain in the European
Water Skiing Championships in Holland this Summer. Adam Murfet
(18) and his team will be competing against six other countries,
with the hope of winning the title for the Formula Three category.
Adams Water-ski team is made up of himself (skier), his
brother -Wayne (driver) and his Dad Ricky (Observer). The
team have been competing together since the beginning, and being
a family team gives them the advantage of knowing each others
strengths and weaknesses.
Adam said: To ski race you need a good driver, an observer
that you can trust and the funding to be able to participate.
After a great start to the season, I have developed my confidence
and it is an honour to be chosen to represent my country. Im
doing endless amounts of training both on the water and in the
gym and I hope it pays off!
