Oldham midfielder Ged Murphy played for Norwich's Under 21s in
a friendly on 21st April 1999 against Bristol City.
Ged was released by Oldham at the end of the 1998/99 season. After
trialling with Altrincham, Ged played for Barrow and Stafford
Rangers before he joined Nuneaton in October 1999 making 17 appearances.
In October 2000, Ged joined Hyde Utd of the Northern League. Ged
moved on to Leigh RMI but was released in May 2001. He signed
for Stalybridge Celtic in August 2001 where he made 41 appearances
in 2001/02, scoring once against Barnet. Ged switched to neighbours
Droylsden in August 2002.
He signed for Altrincham in early November 2005 after his contract
was cancelled at Droylsden. Under the new transfer rules he was
unable to play for Altrincham for 30 days so was loaned to Radcliffe
Borough for whom he played several games. After his debut on 3
December 2005 at Accrington, he became a regular until he was
sidelined by a badly gashed thigh picked up at Crawley in February
2006. Although he returned to the first team and scored his first
goal, against Gravesend on 8 April 2006, he was released in May
2006.
In July 2006, he joined Conference new boys Stafford Rangers
on trial which materialised into a signing the following month.
