Spanish left back Julian Palacios had a poor game for Norwich Reserves in a 2-2 draw against Cambridge in October 2000 and was responsible for at least one of the U's goals. Norwich therefore decided not to take him leaving Julian without a club as he had been freed by troubled Spanish Second Division side Merida. He had earlier had a trial with Scottish side Dunfermline.

Julian began his career at Rayo but has spent time at Talavera, Numancia and Merida.
