Alfie Payne

Biography

Alfie Payne played for Norwich's Under-15s in the Foyle Cup in Northern Ireland in July 2014. He is a central midfielder.

He was one of ten yougnsters to join Norwich's Under-18s as first year scholars on 1st July 2016.

On 30th June 2018, he signed his first professional contract with Norwich

Payne was called up to the first team bench for the away clash with Sheffield Wednesday on 3rd November 2018 due to an injury crisis and lack of homegrown players. He didn't play in the 4-0 win though.

He signed a new one year deal with City on 20th February 2019.

On 2nd August 2019 Payne joined Kings Lynn on a season long loan ahead of their National League North campaign. He made 25 appearances, scoring three goals, before the season was curtailed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. On 17th June 2020 it was confirmed that Lynn were winners of the National League South, on a points per game basis and would be promoted into the National League.

On 17th May 2020 Payne revealed that he would be leaving Norwich after 12 years with the Canaries. He then joined Braintree but left in October 2020.

Payne signed for Lowestoft on 26th November 2020. Blues boss Jamie Godbold said: “We are delighted – Alfie will be a great addition. He has been on our radar for quite a while and we are glad to have him join a really competitive squad that is young and quite exciting. Alfie is a very good, young talented player with aspirations to go play higher."

After the Southern League was declared void for the 2020/21 campaign due to the Covid-19 lockdown, Payne returned to Kings Lynn on loan on 8th March 2021.

He moved to Braintree in July 2021 and in 2023/24 he played a key role as Braintree won promotion, via the play-offs, to the National League.

He moved to St Albans City on 9th June 2024 having played 158 games for Braintree.
