Aston Villa midfielder Aaron Ramsay joined Norwich on a season long loan on 5th August 2022.
He joined Aston Villa at under-9 level with his brother Jacob. He rose through the youth ranks and signed his first professional contract in March 2021. He was part of the Villa youth team that won the FA Youth Cup on 24th May 2021 against Liverpool. Dean Smith gave him his first team debut against Barrow in the EFL Trophy on 24th August 2021.
He was then loaned to Cheltenham on 11th January 2022 and made 14 appearances, scoring once.
In June 2022 he heped England win the European Under-19 Championship including scoring the final goal in England's 3-1 defeat of Israel in the final.
Smith expressed his delight at bringing Ramsey to Norfolk, telling official club channels: "Aaron trained with the first team quite a lot when I was at Villa. He played during pre-season matches with us as well. He’s one that really excited myself and Shakey.
He made his Norwich debut as a 64th minute substitute in the Carabao Cup against Birmingham on 9th August 2022. His first start came in the next round ot that trophy against Bournemouth on 23rd August 2022. Ramsay scored his first goals for Norwich on 29th October 2022 hitting a brace in the 3-1 win over Stoke City at Carrow Road.
An injury suffered in December 2022 during a training camp in Tampa Bay saw him require knee surgery that would keep him out of action for months so he returned to Aston Villa on 3rd January 2022. He had made 20 appearances for Norwich, scoring three goals and registering three assists.
He experienced a miraculous (!) recovery to sign for Middlesbrough on loan on 31st January 2023.
On 6th August 2023 speculation linked him with a £12million move to Burnley. This was completed on 22nd August 2023. He had made four appearances for Villa. He said "I have been waiting to be a Burnley player for a while and I can't wait to get started,"
His first season saw Burnley relegated from the Premier League on 11th May 2024 following a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.
