New Zealand international
Shane Rufer and his brother Wayne joined Norwich on trial in 1982
and played in the reserves and I remember them making an appearance
in a friendly against Fort Lauderdale Strikers. City's hopes of
signing the Kiwi duo were dashed when the Home Office refused
to grant them a work permit.
Shane later played in Switzerland for Servette (1990/91)
After a period coaching the Football Kingz, he was appointed
in 2005 as co-coach of New Zealand side Young Heart Manawatu who
competed in the Oceania Club Championships. When chief coach Colin
Tuua resigned on 26th May 2006so to work with the National team
Under-17 squad, Shane was automatically identified as a prime
contender to replace him.
