Gary played for Norwich's youth team in 1997. After not being offered a Y.T.S contract at Norwich, Scott joined Millwall F.C. on a month to month basis playing in the Academy Under 17s and Under 19s until January 1999.Scott then played a few reserve matches for Gillingham F.C. but due to persistent ligament damage to his ankles scott was not offered a contract. Scott then played for Dagenham and Redbridge reserves where he was ever present on the right wing through the 2000/2001 season. Dagenham then scrapped their reserve side the next season leaving himt with no club.

Scott then played for Sawbridgeworth town with former Norwich schoolboys Danny Rafis and John Elmes. He kept aggrivating his ankle and eventually gave up playing in 2002.
