It was reported in August 2018 that Norwich City youngster Lewis Shipley had been away training with England's Under-15s and Under-16s. He is from Wisbech. He played for Norwich's Under-18s in a July 2019 friendly against Colchester.
9th August 2020 Norwich announced that six Academy youngsters, including Shipley, had signed with the Club as first-year scholars with the Canaries. He is described as a defender.
Highly rated, Lewis signed his first professional contract with Norwich on 27th December 2020. He had become an integral part to City's Under-18s side, starting eight of the twelve games so far in all competitions this season, playing 90 minutes in all but one fixture. Shipley also featured for all 90 minutes in the young Canaries 4-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.
Shipley, a self-confessed Norwich fan, described it as a lifetime aspiration achieved, crediting one academy coach in particular for his help in the defender's development. He said "It feels incredible, I've been at the club since I was seven-years-old and it's just a dream come true for any Norwich fan. To be in this situation, it's a true honour. Greg Crane [Under-18s coach] has been with me since I was eight, to help me through this, he deserves as much credit as anyone. He helped me get to where I am today."
He signed a new contract in December 2021 committing him to the club until the summer of 2025.
He played for Norwich's first-team in their pre-season friendly with Hibernian in July 2022.
On 22nd July 2023 he joined Accrington Stanley on a season-long loan. He said "The quicker the game is, the more it suits me so I think this physicality in League Two will be better for me than 23s football." Teammate Brad Hills had already joined Stanley on loan.
Shipley made his league debut as Stanley defeated Newport 3-0 on the opening day of the 2023/23 season (5th August 2023). He made 31 appearances, scoring twice.
On 30th August 2024 Shipley went out on loan again joining Cheltenham until January 2025.
