28 year old Australian
goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos became Norwich's fourth signing
of the 2009 summer when he signed a two year deal on 8th July
2009.
Michael started out
with Victoria side Bulleen Inter Kings in 1998 in his native Australia
and then had spells at Bulleen Zebras and South Melbourne before
moving to New Zealand side Football Kingz in 2001.
Theoklitos made 20
appearances for the Kiwi club before moving to England and Blackpool
in 2002. But unfortunately injury restricted his appearances to
just three games for Blackpool and he returned home to Australia
and former club Bulleen Zebras.
Consistent performances
for the Zebras that season culminated in the side reaching the
final of the Victorian Premier League and saw three penalty saves
by Theoklitos helping them to victory. His performances ultimately
led to him joining Melbourne Victory for their inaugural season
in the 2005-06 A-League.
During his time at
Victory he established himself as one of the best keepers in the
country - becoming 2007 Hyandai A-League Goalkeeper of the Year
and playing an integral part in his side's Premiership and Grand
Final success in 2008-09, keeping five clean sheets during the
climax to that season. In total he made 72 appearances for the
Melbourne Club. He declined a new contract witht he Victory in
May 2009 and left the club in July 2009
Although selected by
Australia on two occasions, he has yet to make an appearance for
the Socceroos - his latest call-up was against Kuwait back in
March 2009, where he was an unused substitute. With Greek ancestry
he has also received interest from their national association
but so far has only featured for Australia.
Michael came to Norwich
on trial in March 2009 where he impressed Bryan
Gunn and Paul Crichton, before
returning to Carrow Road on 7th July 2009. Gunn said of his new
signing "Michael has always been the number one
target this summer, so obviously I'm delighted he's put pen to
paper"
Michael made his debut
for Norwich in the 7-1 shock home defeat to Colchester on the
opening day of the 2009/10 season
Rumours circulated
in mid-December 2009 that Michael had returned home to sign for
new A-League side Melbourne Heart. Although this was not true,
Michael was finally released by the Canaries in March 2010, having
made just the one fateful appearance for the Canaries.
On 13th March 2010,
it was announced that Michael had signed a three year contract
with the Brisbane Roar. In his first season, he surprisingly set
an Australian A-League record of going 876 minutes without conceding
a goal.
He changed his name
by deed poll to Michael Theo in the summer of 2012
He left Brisbane in July 2018. After a career break, he joined Nunawading City on 1st July 2019.
He became goalkeeping coach for Western United in 2021 and became Nunawading's assistant coach in 2022.
