Young central defender
David Tyrie played for Norwich City's Under 19s in their 1-0 victory
over Millwall on 15th February 2003. Tyrie was then on
Spurs' books playing for their Under 19s. He was born in Norwich,
attended City of Norwich school and captained the Norwich Schools
side. He played for City's schoolboys as a central midfielder
before joining Tottenham.
Further appearances followed for Norwich's academy side and he
also turned out for Nowich's reserves against Luton on 12th March
2003.
At the beginning of April 2003, Norwich announced that they would
take over David's scholarship for his final year, making him a
member of the Norwich City academy. Assistant Academy Director
Adrian Boothroyd said "I know
Colin Watts had been tracking his progress at Spurs and we moved
very quickly to bring him back to Norwich". Academy Director
Sammy Morgan said in the summer
of 2003 that "His challenge is to show us he has the necessary
qualities in that position (central defence). We're hoping that
he and Greg Crane will push each other
to greater heights."
Norwich announced at the end of November 2003 that David would
not be offered a professional contract with the Canaries. He joined
Cambridge United on trial but was injured in his first game for
them. At the beginning of December, he followed that well-worn
route of many Norwich youngsters in signing for Wroxham, making
his debut in the defeat of AFC Sudbury. He joined Cambridge again
on trial in January 2004 playing against Norwich's reserves on
14th January and scoring in a 2-2 draw. He then trialled with
Tony Adams' Wycombe Wanderers during the first week of February
2004. He was then linked with trials at Rushden & Diamonds
and Bristol Rovers during February 2004.
The NonLeague
Daily website reported on 12th March that David had joined
Heybridge Swifts of the Ryman League. He is one of four new additions
to the Swifts line-up with James Pullen, Rory Hutton and Shane
Huke had also joined on loan from Peterborough. After a couple
of appearances for the Swifts, David returned to Wroxham where
he scored the winning goal in the 200 Norfolk Cup final against
Diss Town.
David left Wroxham in the summer of 2004 for a soccer scholarship
in the USA but this fell through and he has returned to Wroxham
again. The following September, David did depart for the USA,
joining the Central Conecticutt State University and playing for
their Blue Devils men's soccer team.
He is currently playing for the Western Massachusetts Pioneers
