Ed Wootten was a junior player with Colchester United but was released when he was 16. He began playing non-league football whilst coaching at Colchester's academy. After ten years, he moved to work in Norwich's academy in 2015. In the summer of 2017, he moved across to work with Norwich's first team goalkeepers.
On 8th July 2023 it was reported that Wootten would be leaving Norwich to join up with Daniel Farke at Leeds United. His replacement is expected to be Paul Clements who has worked at Huddersfield with David Wagner.
Wootten's new role at Leeds was confirmed on 11th July 2023. He replaced Marcos Abad at Elland Road, with the Spaniard leaving after six years at the club.
