The
big headline this weekend was David Beckham's
sending-off after eceived, some might say unfairly, two yellow cards for
England in their 1-0 win over Austria at Old Trafford. Former Norwich loanee
Peter Crouch played all 90minutes up front whilst
former schoolboy triallist Rio Ferdinand came
on as substitute for the injuyred Sol Campbell. Austria fielded former triallist
Jurgen Macho in goal. Simon Davies scored Wales' first goal in their 3-2 defeat of Northern Ireland. Youssef Safri played in Morocco's 2-2 draw with Tunisia but was injured in the game that saw the Tunisians qualify for the finals in Germany. In domestic football, the only goal scored by a former Canary was netted by one-time triallist Tony Vaughan for Stockport in their 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient. In non-league football, Adrian Coote scored Wroxham's goal in their 1-1 draw with Aylesbury in the FA Cup qualifying round. |
