Most spectacular goalscoring feat of the weekend goes to Notts Forest's Nicky Southall. The midfielder scored a hat-trick in their 7-1 thrashing of Swindon (for whom Trevor Benjamin scored). Who needs Gary Megson?

In League 2, Drewe Broughton scored the only goal of the game as Rushden & Diamonds best Macclesfield.

In the Championship, Ade Akinbiyi scored for Sheffield United but couldn't help them avoid a 3-2 home defeat to QPR. Malky Mackay helped Watford climb to third place with the opening goal in their 2-1 win over Cardiff. Woeful Norwich coudn't score as tey lost 4-1 to Crystal Palace, City's goal coming from an own goal.

In the Conference, Leroy Griffiths scored Aldershot's second as they won 2-0 at home to Morecambe
