Flown From The Nest traditionally covers those former Norwich City players who have departed for pastures new. This page will cover those players that the tabloid press speculate will be joining Norwich City or that the Canaries have an interest in signing. How many will come true ?

25th May 2004
Norwich are said to be watching reading goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown who despite his potential, is currently second choice to American international Marcus Hahnemann. Portsmouth are also interested in Ashdown.
Norwich were also strongly linked again with Scottish international Paul Gallacher whom Dundee United have accepted will leave Tannadice. Crystal Palace and Plymouth are also said to be keen
Reports from the Midlands also suggested that Norwich had been eyeing up Wolves' Romanian international striker Vio Ganea. Charlton and West Brom were also linked with Ganea according to his agent Gary Williams.
The Sun suggested that Birmingham defender Darren Purse was on his way to Norwich for £500,000

The Sunday People suggest that Bolton defender Per Frandsen is in talks with the Canaries.
They also suggest that Norwich are negotiating to bring experienced Arsenal defender Martin Keown to Carrow Road on a one year deal.
Norwich were also linked with Dundee United's Scottish international goalkeeper Paul Gallacher

The official Leicester City website reports that their versatile star Riccardo Scimeca was in talks with the Canaries. The 28-year-old player, who can play either in defence or in the centre of midfield. Scimeca has a clause in his contract that allows him to speak to other clubs now that the Foxes have been relegated. "I do not want to lose him but he has a clause that allows him to join other Premiership clubs for a nominal fee," said Leicester manager Micky Adams.

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington admits that he is keen to bring Arsenal's young forward David Bentley to Carrow Road on a season-long loan. Arsene Wenger has indicated that he would be willing to aid Bentley's development through loaning him out next season.

The Sunday People link Norwich with a move for Hibernian winger Scott Brown. This rumour resurfaces in the People on May 16th

Norwich are said to be watching Rangers' Scottish international right-back Maurice Ross who would cost approximately £250,000

The Sunday People allege that Norwich are keen on Sunderland's Welsh winger John Oster although they would face competition from Birmingham, Wolves and Manchester City

Nigel Worthington was quick to dismiss speculation linking him with a move for the 33-year Chelsea midfielder, Emmanuel Petit who has found himself down the pecking order since the Russian revolution at Stamford Bridge."I don't know where that one came from!" said the Norwich manager. "He's not one who is on our list at this moment in time.

Media reports suggest that Norwich are lining up a bid for Hibs striker Derek Riordan following a scouting mission yesterday. City have been keeping tabs on Riordan for sometime and scouts were sent to watch him in the CIS Cup Final - which Hibs lost 2-0 to Livingston. Spurs, Man City and Southampton were also there watching the 21 year old who has netted 7 times so far this season

With the departures of Peter Crouch and Darren Huckerby occurring or imminent, the Pink Un speculated whom Nigel Worthington might want to bring to Norwich on loan to replace them. Suggestions were Dean Sturridge (Wolves), Clinton Morrison (Birmingham), Jon Macken (Manchester City), Michael Chopra and Lomano Lua-Lua (both Newcastle)

Norwich are alleged to have watched Scunthorpe's on-loan striker Steve MacLean who has scored three hat-tricks for the Iron this season. Steve is contracted to Rangers who might like him to gain exposure at a higher level

Norwich admit that they have watched Danish centre-back Thomas Baelum who play for Aab Aalborg alongisde David Nielsen, The 25 year old skipper is out of contract at Aab. He has 18 Under-21 caps and has madeover 200 appearances for his club.
Norwich are also said to be watching West Brom's versatile defender James Chambers but would face competition from Tranmere and Stoke if they were to sign the 22year old.

Nigel Worthington confirms that he has made an enquiry to bring Neil Mellor on loan to Carrow Road. The Liverpool striker is the son of former Norwich player Ian. Unfortunately for Norwich, Neil instead joined West Ham on loan for the 2003/04 season

After losing out to WBA on Hulse and to West Ham on Connolly, Norwich make a £300,000 bid for Rotherham's Irish international striker Alan Lee. This is dismissed as unrealistic by Rotherham who paid £150000 for Lee. Norwich lose out to Cardiff who offer around £1million.

To provide Norwich with cover at the right back position occupied by Keith Briggs, Norwich appraoch Arsenal about loaning their German Under-21 international defender Moritz Volz for an initial three month period. Volz instead opted to join Fulham

After losing out to WBA on O'Connor, Worthington is linked with a move to Wimbledon midfielder Damien Francis. This however is denied by Worthington who prompthly signed Francis days later.

an Irish midfielder with Stoke is said to be on Norwich's summer shopping list although they are expected to face competition from West Brom for whom O'Connor eventually signed.

Following the signing of Jim Brennan, Norwich switch their focus to strikers naming Wimbledon's David Connolly, Crewe's Rob Hulse and Stockport's Luke Beckett as their targets. Hulse turned down moves to both Cardiff and Millwall despite their bids being accepted by Crewe. Norwich have made a sealed bid whilst WBA are also keen. Hulse eventually joined West Brom whilst Connolly moved to West Ham.

The Sunday People claim that Nigel Worthington is watching events at Wimbledon carefully as the Dons struggle in administration. A move for strikers David Connolly or Neil Shipperley is said to be on the cards. Worthington later confirmed his interest in the duo whilst Shipperley said he was flattered that Norwich were interested in him.

The Sunday People report that Norwich are close to signing Nottingham Forest's Canadian left back Jim Brennan. Two days later, Nigel Worthington confirms that Brennan is on his list of possible targets but states no approach has yet been made

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington confirms that Burnley's left sided midfielder/defender Lee Briscoe is on his list of targets. The 27 year old played 41 times for the Clarets during 2002/03, scoring twice, but is out of contract.

Nigel Worthington was cagey about whether Manchester City striker Shaun Goater was on his list of summer targets. Goater later signed for Reading
