Former Birmingham defender Jerry Gill joined Norwich's scouting
set-up in 2012 taking responsibility for scouting in the Midlands.
He followed Ewen Chester to Carrow Road
from Birmingham
Despite playing for Bristol Rovers' youth team, Gill began his
football career with non-league club Trowbridge Town. After an
unsuccessful 18 months in London with Leyton Orient, he returned
to the semi-professional game with Weston-super-Mare followed
by six seasons with Bath City. A season at Yeovil Town, where
his goals from midfield helped the club to promotion to the Conference,
earned Gill selection for the England National Game XI
England's representative side for semi-professional players
and a transfer to the Football League with First Division club
Birmingham City.
Though Gill struggled to establish himself with Birmingham, and
was never an undisputed member of the starting eleven, he played
a big part in the club's 2001 League Cup run, and was controversially
omitted from the squad for the final. After Birmingham's promotion
to the Premier League, he moved to Northampton Town, where he
suffered knee ligament damage which ended his career with the
club. He went on to spend four seasons with Cheltenham Town, helping
them to promotion to League One via the play-offs. He spent most
of the 200809 season as player-coach of Conference National
club Forest Green Rovers. After two unsuccessful applications
for managerial posts, and a spell playing for Conference North
club Redditch United, Gill was appointed manager of Conference
South club Weymouth in January 2010, only to resign 44 days later.
A spell as youth team coach at Bristol Rovers preceded his appointment
as academy director at Kidderminster Harriers in June 2011.
In the summer of 2013, Jerry replaced Gary
Holt as the Academy's Professional Development Coach
With Neil Adams' promotion to interim
manager in April 2014, Gill took charge of the Under-21s. In July
2014 Gill assumed the role of Professional Development Phase Lead
Coach, taking over responsibility of the Club`s Under-18s from
Neil Adams. He will also assist Academy Manager Gregg
Broughton.
A shake-up of staff in the academy in July 2015 saw Gill leave
the club. On 1st August 2015, Jerry took up a new role as Head
Coach for the Under-18s at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
On 5th October 2017, Gill was appointed as Bath City's manager replacing Gary Owers who had joined Torquay in September. Gill added: “I’m delighted to re-join Bath City as manager. The Club have always had a big place in my heart and it’s great to get the chance to manage the team here. I’m confident that I can use my knowledge and experience to help develop the team and will also look to strengthen the squad a little and build on the firm foundations that already exist here.”
