Darren Terrington
was an Associate Schoolboy with Norwich City in 1996 when the club's
financial crisis hit and Darren was released at the age of 15. The
then Sprowston High School pupil (see also
Paul
Clayton,
Danny Mills,
Matthew
Wright) continued to play football, this time with Anglian Combination
side St Andrews.
Impressive form in the Anglian Combination led to him signing for
Wroxham and playing primarily for their Reserves and A team. A spectacular
burst of form and goals led to a call-up into the Wroxham first-team
in November and soon he was signed on contract terms. He played
in the FA Vase for Wroxham against Chasetown and became regular
in the first team scoring regularly. He hoped to follow in the footsteps
of former Wroxham star Paul Warne (now with Rotherham) and turn
professional. Although only 18, he hoped that he would win a place
in Norwich City's Under 19 academy side. Darren has also played
for Norfolk Youth.
From
Teamtalk:
"Norwich
City have stepped up their bid to take talented Striker Darren Terrington
to Carrow Road. The Canaries wanted to field the 18 year old in
the reserves this week, but his club have rejected the approach.
Norwich let him go three years ago after he had been initially on
the clubs books, but he has blossomed this season and has been in
a rich scoring vein for the Jewson League side. City's youth development
officer Colin Watts has said: " We are trying to do everything we
can and are being obstructed." Wroxham boss Bruce Cunningham countered:
" The boy is contracted to us and he is prepared to let me do the
guidance. I don't want to get involved in a confrontation with Norwich
and the last thing I want to do is hold up the boy's career." Meanwhile
a Third Division club are apparently on his trail and former Wroxham
striker John Deehan is also keeping tabs
on the situation in his position as Sheffield United coach.
Darren played for Norwich City reserves against Portsmouth on May
6th 1999 and scored the first goal in a 2-1 victory. Darren returned
to Carrow Road for pre-season training in July 1999 with the prospect
of a full time contract if he impresses. Should he impress, he would
be placed initially in the club's Under 19 academy side. Darren
played for Norwich City Reserves in their opening clash of the 1999/2000
season against Bristol Rovers but could not manage a goal in a 0-0
draw. Darren was chosen for the April 2000 clash with Millwall but
came off injured after 20minutes without being able to show the
Canaries what he could do
As time progressed, Darren could no longer expect a first team place
automatically at Wroxham. In the summer of 2003, he stepped down
into local junior football and joined St Andrews of the Anglian
Combination. He transferred to Cromer in December 2003 and scored
on his debut in the 3-0 defeat of Blofield.
