Rejected by Norwich as a schoolboy, Matthew Spring got revenege when he scored Watford's winner in a 3-2 thriller at Carrow Road on Saturday 21st. Paul McVeigh and Peter Thorne scored City's goals.

Elsewhere in the Championship, it was not good news. Paul Peschisolido scored the opener for Derby after 2minutes but they crashed to a 6-1 defeat to Coventry. Darel Russell scored an own goal as they lost 3-0 at home to Hull.

In League One, Jamie Cureton scored Swindon's opener as they beat Bournemouth 4-2.

In the Premiership and League Two, no former Canaries were on the scoresheet although Chris Sutton had a good game as Birmingham trounced Portsmouth 5-0.

In the Championship, Leroy Griffiths, Alex Meechan and Mark Jackson all scored (for Aldershot, Forest Green and Kidderminster respectively)

In Spain, David Beckham scored his first goal of the season as Real Madrid won 3-1
