The Norwich City youth team of 1987/88 had a number of players contesting the goalkeepers spot. In addition to Marcus Ling, there was Jason Batty, Neil Forsdick and Mark Hemmings . Marcus began his career at Lowestoft and later played for Ashlea in the Premier Division of the Anglian Combination (Norfolk's Senior football league and one stage lower than the Jewson Eastern Counties League). As of November 1999, Marcus is now playing for Corton of the Anglian Combination Division Two.
