Jacob Lungi Sørensen joined Norwich City on 20th July 2020 from Danish side Esbjerg on a three year deal. The 22 year old midfielder has been capped by Denmark at Under-21 level (he has also played at Under-18 and Under-20 level). Sorensen has made 117 senior appearances in all competitions for Esbjerg, who play in the top-flight of Danish football, scoring eight goals. The powerful midfielder also featured in the Europa League for his home-town side during 2019/20.
Head Coach Daniel Farke added: “We’re really happy to be able to sign Jacob. There was a lot of interest and many clubs were after him. He’s young but still has experience on a really good level in a different country. He’s a brilliant lad and I like his attitude. He offers a lot in midfield. He’s aggressive and competitive in duels but also good on the ball, so quite versatile. From defensive midfield positions, he’s also been capable of scoring goals, something we have been lacking. I think we’ve got a really good talent. We hope he can help us in the short and long term.”
Minor injuries, international breaks and adjusting to his new surroundings delayed his debut and when it came on 27th October 2020 away at Brentford it was in an unfamiliar left-back position following an injury to Xavi Quintilla during the warm-up. He did well in Norwich's 1-1 draw and retained his place at left-back for the trip to Bristol City the following Saturday, providing the assist for Teemu Pukki to score Norwich's second goal in a 3-1 win. He is the eighth Dane to play for Norwich after Henrik Mortensen, Jan Molby, David Nielsen, Thomas Helveg, Dario Dumic, Jens Berthel Askou and Steen Nedergaard.
Sorensen finished the 2020/21 campaign with 34 appearances as Norwich won the Championship title. He scored once, against Notts Forest on 9th December 2020.
He made just 12 appearances in 2021/22 as Norwich finished bottom of the Premier League.
He made 20 appearances for Norwich during the 2022/23 season, scoring twice.
Sorensen made a total of 17 appearances in 2023/24, scoring once, as Norwich finished sixth reaching the Championship play-offs, before losing 4-0 to Leeds. Jacob signed a new contract with City in May 2024 extending his contract by a year with a club option to take that to 2026.
