Bryan Hamilton for unsettled 6ft 1in striker Zema Abbey.
As TEAMtalk reported earlier
today, Hamilton was waiting to hear if he had been successful
with bids for two unnamed strikers, one of whom was thought to
be Abbey. Hamilton is desperate to add a new striker to his squad
in order to ease the current goalscoring crisis and believed that
Abbey could make the transition from Division Two. However, Cambridge
chairman Reg Smart described the offer as "being nowhere near
our valuation of the player". He said: "It was a six-figure offer,
but apart from being far too small, we didn't like the way they
wanted to pay it. It also involved a swap for two Norwich City
players who Roy McFarland didn't particularly fancy. "It seems
Zema's agent is hawking him around, while he's still on contract
with us. And my message to anybody thinking they can take advantage
of the situation is that the boy is not for sale." Abbey is keen
on a move higher up the league's and will be frustrated that United
have blocked the move. However, Hamilton is unlikely to pay over
the odd's for a player unproven at Division One level and is now
expected to turn his attentions elsewhere. The City boss is still
awaiting to hear if his other bid has been successful as his search
for a new goalscorer continues. The Luton-born 23-year-old is
